Tell us about your love story and proposal?
It all began in July 2005, we were high school sweethearts, and although we didn’t attend the same school we met through mutual friends and have been inseparable since!
Since we got together at a young age, naturally it took a while for the proposal. Ali proposed on our 9 year anniversary, well a day after our 9 year anniversary (just to surprise me) while we were holidaying in the USA. He kept the ring in his bag for almost 3 weeks saving it for NYC which was our third stop in the States.
He had it all planned –
Lunch at the Central Park Boat House, followed by a bike ride around Central Park which nearly cost me a broken arm after colliding with another cyclist.
Throughout our travels around Central Park, Ali was continuously scoping to find the perfect proposal location. As the day was drawing to an end, the sun was beginning to set over NYC’s skyline. We were sitting lake-side in Central Park, Ali had given me the camera to try to capture a photograph of the beautiful sunset over the skyline. Fireflies were beginning to glow, and as I turned around to hand Ali the camera – there he was with a beautiful diamond ring and the most nervous anxious look on his face. I was completely speechless. Ali was there just looking at me like ‘well, will you?’ and I shouted OF COURSE!
What was your wedding day highlight?
The vows – Ali & I decided to write our own vows to each other. We agreed not to share them up until the ceremony and it was such a special moment standing in front of each other making our personalised promises.
Although we decided not to share them with each other, it was to our shock how similar our vows were.
Our celebrant, Megan Watson tailored a ceremony to fit us. She really got to know us for the 2 years we were engaged and presented us with a ceremony we will never forget.
